Rene Lalique

The two French craftsmen whose names are synonymous with 1920s and 1930s Art Deco glass are Rene Lalique and Maurice Marinot. Marinot's production amounted to little more than 2,000 pieces whereas Lalique's production using mass-producing techniques amounted to several million objects.
Rene Lalique's rise to prominence in the manufacture of art glass followed close behind his career as the premier Art Nouveau jeweller. Lalique reproduced the quality of moonstones and opals in his range of glassware known as opalescent glass.
Other French glassmakers such as Barolac, Sabino, Hunebelle, and Verlys all included opalescent glass in their catalogues yet none managed to combine the same high quality design and control of opalescence achieved by the Lalique workshops.
It is important that the new collector does not confuse the productions of Cristal Lalique, the present day company with that of Rene Lalique. Nearly all the ware produced during Lalique's lifetime (he died in 1945) include the initial 'R' together with the name Lalique.
